Teton County P&Z: No Tall Buildings Outside Cities

Tall structures should be in cities. That is the finding of the Teton County, Idaho, Planning and Zoning Commission.

The recommendation now goes on to the Board of County Commissioners.

County Planner Angie Rutherford said the planning board would allow for turbine-tech windmills and cell towers if they are permitted by conditional-use permits, but took out provisions for virtually anything else. The board’s recommendation would allow construction of architectural or mechanical features four feet above a building’s roof-line. The county would also allow barns, granaries and silos to be sixty feet high in agricultural and manufacturing zones or in A-2 and half-acre zones with a conditional-use permit.

The hearing was prompted by a request to allow a steeple on top of a proposed Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints meeting house near Victor. The county commissioners denied the building request.

County commissioners are expected to take up the recommendations in either May or June.
