2 Scams Target Local People

Two scams are making their way into the homes and phones of local people, and police want you to know what to look for.

The first scam is a text that appears to be from Walmart, saying that the recipient has won a gift card and should go to a website and buy to redeem it. If you get that text, delete it. Walmart’s website has confirmed it is a scam.

The second scam is a phone call from a person claiming to be from the Pocatello Senior Center. The caller asks for personal information and medical records.

Senior center officials said they would never ask anyone for that information.

“You can either call a number and register or go to … donotcall.gov and you can register several phones and I encourage people to register their cell phones … as well,” said Dianne Brush, community services specialist.

You can also call the national Do Not Call Registry at (888) 382-1222.
