Aberdeen Not Laying Off Teachers, Still Considering Budget

Rumors were flying around the Aberdeen School District on Wednesday that teachers might be getting laid off, but Aberdeen Superintendent C. Jane Ward said, not so fast.

The school district did hold a work session on Wednesday to discuss the budget, but no decisions were made.

The district is required to send out an announcement to all employees when it is considering cutting positions, and it has, Ward said. But the district doesn’t have all of its federal funds yet, and Ward doesn’t have letters of intention from teachers yet, so she’s hoping that any positions that need to be cut will happen through attrition.

The district will make a final budget decision on June 20.
