Mimi Fights Disease With Help From Primary Children’s
On Halloween, before a night of trick or treating, Mimi Nelson?s family found something wrong.
“My oldest daughter was helping her put makeup on for a costume party. And noticed she had a growth on her face,” said Mary Nelson, Mimi?s mother.
Loads of doctors and lab tests later, the 9-year-old was diagnosed with a rare form of malignant cancer, growing dangerously fast.
“It was really scary. I spend a lot of time in hospitals anyway, because I’m a nurse, but being on this side of the bed was a big change,” said Mary.
Mimi’s mother says her fears were helped by the dedicated staff at Primary Children’s Medical Center. Who true to their motto, put the child first.
Mimi had to get some dental work done as part of her treatment. ?The cute little nurses during the night decided to play the tooth fairy. And we woke up the next morning to this cute little note they’d decorated and written,” said Mary.
Mary said the outlook is looking much brighter for her daugher. And she said the kindness her family’s been shown, makes them want to help others.
“A lot of people who have gone through experiences themselves come back as adults and bring their own families and try to give back. And that’s something we hope to do eventually as well,” Mary said.
Mimi is still facing a few more rounds of chemotherapy. She’s left on Wednesday to go through chemotherapy for the rest of the week.
