Boise woman found guilty in death of 2-year old

An Ada County jury has found a 57-year-old Boise woman guilty of killing a 2-year-old boy at her day care center in December 2009.

Katherine Stanfield was found guilty of first-degree murder Monday in the death of Wyatt Fesler, the son of her daughter’s boyfriend. The boy died of a brain injury on Dec. 13, 2009.

Stanfield argued that the boy was prone to holding his breath and fainting spells and that he fell and hit his head, causing the fatal injuries.

Prosecutors argued the pronounced bleeding and swelling in the boy’s brain, along with other injuries, show that he died as the result of aggravated battery.

The jury received the case last Thursday.
