Lincoln County Officials back drilling near Big Piney

The Lincoln County commissioners are backing a proposal to drill two exploratory gas wells in the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

They think that the area can be protected while allowing access to energy and mineral resources.

The Casper Star-Tribune (http://bit.ly/JOytf3 ) reports that they were among 24 groups and individuals to submit comments on True Oil’s proposal in the initial comment period. One well would be built and another would be expanded near Big Piney.

One landowner, Jim Finley, urged the U.S. Forest Service to consider the impact that increased truck traffic could have on residents as well as the environment.

The Forest Service will now develop a final plan for the project, which will be released for more public comment in November. It’s expected to make a final decision in March.
