MYAC’s Leadership Summer Camp begins this week

Teaching students about creating a positive influence in class, and becoming a future leader in society: These are just some of the skills taught at the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council Leadership Summer Camp held this week in Idaho Falls. Teachers have selected 36 fourth-and-fifth graders who possess leadership qualities to attend the summer camp.

The camp was started by Idaho Falls Mayor Jared Fuhriman in 2006. The Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council sets up multiple lessons during the dar such as friendshipclass to help strengthen skills in being a goodfriend, and leadership class to promote teamworkamong peers.
The Mayor stated, “This is what its all about. Getting the youth engage to eventually one day we expect them to take our places.”
Camper Summer Gardner was very excited to be chosen to attend the camp. She sums up her feelings about being a leader. “It makes you feel good because you’re helping someone, and it’s a good thing.”
