4 rescued from Snake River after fishing accident

Four people are recovering after a fishing trip on the South Fork of the Snake River in Jefferson County ended with all four of them getting swept through the great feeder head gates.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says it all happened around 7 p.m. Thursday.

The victims are Daniel James Smith, John Shinkle, Keisha Gallagher and Devin Bergman.

All four were helped out of the water by other fisherman just below the head gates.

Bergman was taken by AirIdaho to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center with a compound fracture to her leg, the sheriff’s office said.

Smith and Galiger were both treated for cuts and bruises on the waters edge.

None of the victims were wearing life vests.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office would like to advice all boaters to wear life vests and take precautions when on the areas rivers and lakes.
