Crews snag gas line in Rigby

It was a scary afternoon Wednesday for those living along Dove Avenue in Rigby.

Construction crews snagged a gas line and pulled a meter off of a house.

It happened around 4:30 p.m. as crews were working on a water project in the neighborhood.

Fire Chief Jim Deuel said two houses were in danger of high gas levels. Luckily only one family was home at the time. Crews evacuated them for safety reasons.

Central fire fighters were able to pinch off the gas line and then ventilate everything.

Deuel said sometimes these things are unavoidable.

“You’re hoping that it doesn’t happen, but no matter how much you try to mark all the lines and make sure that you know where everything is, you get some surprises once in a while,” said Deuel.

After replacing the line, Intermountain Gas will have to come in and reignite all the pilot lights in the homes to get gas flowing again.
