Chukars ready for sweep of Orem

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — The Idaho Falls Chukars close out their series with Orem Wednesday night before hosting Grand Junction Thursday and Friday.

The Chukars are looking to go 3-0 on the season for the first time since 2009.

Idaho Falls defeated Orem in the first two games of the series, 16-14 Monday and 11-4 Tuesday. The Chukars finished 2011 4-12 against Orem. A win Wednesday would give Idaho Falls a 3-0 lead in the series with 13 games left against the Owlz.

The Chukars bats have been hot over the first two games, scoring a combined 27 runs. First baseman Rainier Bello and outfielder Julio Apricio each have recorded four-hit games. Center fielder Ethan Chapman has added multi-hit performances in the first two contests.

Idaho Falls leads the way in the Pioneer League, tied with Ogden at the top of the South Division standings. Each squad is 2-0. The rest of the division is 0-2 while the entire North Division is 1-1 on the young season.

Righthander Andrew Ferguson gets the nod on the mound tonight. Ferguson started two games at Kane County before coming to Idaho Falls. He finished his stint with the Cougars with an 0-1 record and 1.93 ERA, giving up just two earned runs on 10 hits.
