Jeff. Co. deputies respond to 2 boating accidents in 25 minutes

With warmer temperatures and perfect weather for outdoor sports in the area, more folks are taking to eastern Idaho waters.

Water enthusiasts crowded the south fork of the Snake River on Sunday, and two separate boating accidents were reported to Jefferson County Sheriff deputies by mid-morning.

At 11:15 a.m., deputies responded to 5805 East Heise Road along the Snake River near Kelly Canyon. Three folks from Bonneville County found themselves in the water after the raft they were in snagged a downed tree and capsized.

22-year-old Shawnie Henager, 33-year-old Tyler Robertson and 28-year-old John Henager were fishing when the incident occurred.

All three made it to a sand bar. Beside a few cuts and abrasions, no one in the boat was seriously injured.

Life vests were in the boat but not on the occupants at the time of the incident.

About 25 minutes later, 38-year-old Michelle Robinson called dispatch and reported she and her husband were on the river when the raft they were in got caught in branches of a low hanging tree and started taking on water.

The couple tried to bail out the raft but could not keep up with it and climbed out to safety on the shore. No injuries occurred.
