Fire department announces fireworks ban

The Pocatello Fire Department wants to make sure fireworks don’t turn in to wildfires.

The department released a list of streets where fireworks will be banned from June 26, 2012 until further notice.

According to the Pocatello City Council, only “safe and sane” fireworks may be discharged in the “safe” areas of the Gate City.

In addition, fireworks can only be set off between June 28 and July 5.

However local fireworks sellers say the new restrictions shouldn’t hurt business.

“I’d rather have the precautions in place. I mean they’re just trying to be safe, and I don’t want to hear of anybody buying fireworks from our stand to have started a fire,” said Family Fun Fireworks manager Dana Strang.

The list of banned streets is extensive. To find out if your street is on the banned list, click here or contact the Pocatello Fire Department at 208-234-6204.
