Ashton plans water well conversion

The city of Ashton wants its residents to turn off their lawn sprinklers Thursday. City Clerk Kathy Stegelmeier is asking residents to conserve water and limit use to domestic, culinary purposes only on July 5.

Engineer Marvin Fielding of Schiess and Associates said workers are installing a new treatment system on the city’s primary water well and will be using a secondary well to bridge the conversion. Water availability should return to normal by Friday.

Once complete this winter, the new treatment system should address a long standing nitrate contamination problem in the Ashton area.
