Fireworks OK in parts of Pocatello on Fourth

Lighting fireworks on the Fourth of July will be permitted in certain areas of Pocatello after all.

In a majority decision announced Monday afternoon, Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad and the City Council decided to lift the citywide ban on the discharge of “safe and sane” fireworks within city limits, but only on Wednesday from noon to midnight.

However, there are still several areas of the Pocatello community where the discharge of all fireworks is still illegal. (See PDF attached to this story in full story view.)

“Please, please, please continue to show extreme caution given the conditions we are experiencing,” said Blad in a news release. “Remember to buy only ‘safe and sane’ fireworks and keep a bucket of water or a water supply nearby for emergencies.

Pocatello is still reeling from last week’s Charlotte Fire, in which 66 homes were destroyed.

The restrictions in Chubbuck have also been lifted, and fireworks can only be lit in that city during the same time frame as in Pocatello.
