Bear Cub fire sweeps through Teton wilderness
The Bridger Teton National Forest reports a new fire is raging in the Teton Wilderness.
First reported at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, the “Bear Cub” fire was estimated at 300 acres at 4:30 pm and was already crowning and running to the north and east through heavy dead and down timber with beetle killed trees. Firefighters say the area is located in extremely difficult terrain with high growth potential.
The fire is located on the southern portion of the Buffalo Fork and south of the 2011 Nowlin fire perimeter in the Buffalo Ranger District.
The fire was believed to be lightning caused. Lightning maps indicate lightning activity in the area over the past 48 hours.
