Chukars take down Ogden

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Fireworks and baseball have become a 4th of July tradition in Idaho Falls, and the Chukars have now won four straight on the nation’s birthday.

Idaho Falls defeated Ogden 9-2 Wednesday night, creating fireworks of their own on offense.

The Chukars put up five runs in the first two innings. Catcher Jin-Ho Shin went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Shortstop Adrian Martinez pushed his hitting streak to four games with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, hitting a triple and scoring two runs. Left fielder Sam Bates added a solo home run in the eighth.

Clayton Schulz (1-2) picks up the win on the mound for Idaho Falls. Schulz went 6.0 innings and struck out 10. He gave up one run on seven hits and one walk. David Middendorf earned his first save of the season, going 3.0 innings and striking out two.

Idaho Falls is now 6-2 in the past eight years on the 4th of July. The Chukars hit the road for a five-game road trip before returning to Melaleuca Filed July 11.
