Inmate walks away from St. Anthony work camp

A search is underway for a Department of Correction inmate who walked away from St. Anthony work camp on Thursday night.

Tarango Deforest Padilla, 39, was discovered missing from the minimum security facility at 8:32 p.m. He was last seen leaving the facility at 4:08 p.m. The facility does head counts of inmates at 3:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

It was several hours before the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office alerted residents of Padilla’s escape because of a technical difficulty with their reverse 911 system, according to Sheriff Len Humphries. He said the issue has been fixed.

He was last seen wearing a brown duck short coat, blue jeans, white tennis shoes, white shirt, with thermal top.

Padilla was serving a seven-to-15 year sentence for two counts of grand theft from Twin Falls County, the department said. He would have been eligible for parole in 2017.

If you have information about Padilla’s whereabouts, you’re asked to call your local law enforcement agency. Padilla is not considered dangerous.
