Idaho State Police to hire new troopers

Starting in August, the Idaho State Police plan to hire 20 new Troopers to begin training.

The new recruits applied around six months ago and are finishing up an extensive hiring process.

ISP has now posted its second trooper recruitment announcement and is currently accepting applications now through July 26.

Officials said there’s a need for more troopers throughout the state, because more troopers on the road means more safety for Idaho residents.

Employment with ISP is highly competitive. Around 900 applicants applied last year, and only 14 were accepted.

“A lot of people do want to work for the state police,” said Trooper Andrew Nakashima. “It’s a pretty rigorous hiring, selection and training process, so not very many people make it through.”

The hiring process takes about six months to complete and officials said previous law enforcement experience is not required.
