Ex-con arrested after incident with girlfriend

An alleged altercation with his girlfriend landed an ex-convict in jail in Rexburg on charges of felony assault, felony attempted strangulation, felony possession of a firearm and misdemeanor battery.

Carlos Salinas, 35, was arrested in Rexburg on Friday night after his girlfriend told police he had made threats, roughed her up then fled. He continued to phone and text threats to the woman throughout the day, police said.

Rexburg police traced the man to Idaho Falls, where he eluded Bonneville County authorities. A TAC team was called to an apartment at 419 S. Fourth West in Rexburg. The team forcibly entered the apartment and arrested Salinas on Friday night.

He is being held on a $200,000 bond in Madison County Jail.
