Idaho Falls airman buried after nearly 50 years M.I.A.

There was some closure in our nation’s capitol on Monday.

Six American servicemen killed Christmas Eve 1965 when their aircraft crashed during a Vietnam War combat mission over Laos, were laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. on Monday.

One of the 6 airmen buried was Chief Master Sgt. Larry C. Thornton of Idaho Falls.

It was nearly 50 years ago he and the crew of a Douglas AC-47 aircraft went down over Laos.

It wasn’t until 1995 that POW investigators found the crash site in the Savannakhet Province.

Human remains, including Thornton’s, were finally found there in 2010.

All six airmen, including Thornton, were symbolically buried together in a single casket as a crew at Arlington National Cemetery.

All six airmen were buried with full military honors.
