Jefferson County bans open-field burning

Despite the recent rain, fire chiefs in Jefferson County aren’t taking any chances. Effective immediately, the Central Fire District, Roberts Fire District, and Hamer Fire District are ordering an open-burning ban until further notice. This includes open-field fires and burn barrels.

The hot, dry and windy weather this summer has caused several open fires to get out of control. Last month, the central fire district responded to 25 uncontrolled fires in the span of three days. Fire Chief Jim Deuel says enough is enough, and safety comes first.

“We’re just encouraging people please help us be able to protect you and keep your family and property safe.” said Deuel.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact the fire chief in your respected district.
