Victor to be Capital for a Day

Victor will be Idaho’s next Capital for a Day, the governor’s office announced Tuesday.

The event in the Teton County town will be July 25.

The governor brings state government to Idahoans living outside Boise each month by making a different town in Idaho the state’s Capital for a Day, according to a news release. The meetings provide local residents an all-day opportunity to have open discussions about government issues with Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter, members of his Cabinet and other senior state officials.

Capital for a Day is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Teton Springs Resort in Victor. Otter also will join Mayor Zachary Smith and other local residents for a noon luncheon at the same location, hosted by State Sen. John Tippets and State Reps. Marc Gibbs and Tom Loertscher.

State officials joining Governor Otter at Capital for a Day will include Lt. Gov. Brad Little, Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Luna; Col. Jerry Russell, director of the Idaho State Police; Department of Parks and Recreation Director Nancy Merrill, Department of Water Resources Director Gary Spackman and Department of Insurance Director Bill Deal.

Also on hand will be senior representatives from the Department of Fish and Game, Idaho State Department of Agriculture, Department of Health and Welfare, Department of Commerce, Idaho Transportation Department, State Tax Commission, State Board of Education, and the Department of Labor.

“Victor was named for a 19th century mail carrier who braved an Indian scare to keep a postal route open over the Tetons. It’s still a gateway to the Tetons, and an important part of the new Teton County that’s emerged in this beautiful part of Idaho’s landscape,” Otter said. “I’m bringing members of my Cabinet to hear directly from the people who live, work and raise families here about how we can help them realize their hopes for this great little community.”
