Soda Springs fire calming down

The Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center now estimates a range fire near Soda Springs at 219 acres. Federal firefighting crews sent six engines, a hand crew, and one water tanker to help Caribou County firemen fight the blaze. Two county fire engines were on the scene Thursday.

If there is no additional activity, federal fire managers hope to withdraw their equipment around 6 pm Thursday.

Contrary to previous reports, no one was evacuated, although the blaze, which started Wednesday afternoon north of the airport was near homes.

Crews from Bear Lake County, Caribou County, Bancroft, Grace, Montpelier, Monsanto and Soda Springs fire departments also responded to the fire.

The fire is believed to be human caused. We’ll update this story as more details become available.
