Airplane crashes in Togowtee Pass
Teton County, Wyo., law enforcement, firefighters, medics, Grand Teton National Park rangers and search and rescue were on alert Sunday after report of a downed aircraft on Togowtee Pass.
The call came in at about 11:25 a.m. from a caller who said there were two persons on board, one complaining of a wrist injury and the other suffering a heart condition.
There was some confusion as to whether the crash happened on Togwotee or Teton Pass, but in any case, the caller said the plane was in a meadow about 100 yards from a major highway.
A Grand Teton National Park Ranger arrived on the scene about 12:10 pm and confirmed there were no injuries.
The Teton County Sheriff’s Department said the pilot hit a down draft and was unable to gain altitude, forcing him to make an emergency landing. The crash site was just off the highway in the area of mile post 23 on Highway 26. Deputy Jesse Wilcox said the plane sustained damage to the landing gear and underside of the plane. The single-prop plane was on a flight from Alpine to Riverton, Wyo.
