Owinza fire grows to 20,000 acres

Lightning ignited a rapidly growing range fire about 10 miles southeast of Shoshone, Idaho, at 4:45 pm Sunday.

The Bureau of Land Management said gusty winds quickly whipped the “Owinza Fire”through grass and brush to 20,000 acres.

There was no containment or control time estimated. Forty-three firefighters were assigned to the blaze. The growth potential of the fire was rated as extreme.
