Closures lifted on Fontenelle fire
Activity on the Fontenelle fire 18 miles west of Big Piney, Wyoming has been minimal this week and a Type IV management team will take over management Thursday. All trail closures in the fire area have been lifted entirely and all roads and trails within the fire perimeter are now open.
The fire is estimated at 100 square miles or 64,083 acres and is now 87 percent contained. Officials said the fire burned in a mosaic pattern and they expect smoke will be visible for months as the fire creeps through unburned vegetation. Firefighters will continue to monitor the fire throughout the summer to ensure that interior fire activity stays within the existing perimeter.
Fire crews are now concentrating on seeding and rehabilitation of the fire line.
Warning signs have been posted encouraging the public to use caution and watch for hazards like fire-related traffic, burning material, dust and ash.
