Bus hits pickup in Franklin County

A pickup and bus crashed in Franklin County on Thursday, ejecting the driver of the pickup.

Tarrel E. Shepherd, 72, of Dayton, was driving a 2000 Blue Bird school bus south on 3200 West, and Carrie A. Johnson, 18, of Weston, was driving a 1988 Chevrolet pickup north on that road. Shepherd tried to turn left onto 800 South, and he struck Johnson’s pickup, Idaho State Police said.

The pickup left the roadway and rolled, ejecting Johnson.

At the time of the crash, the bus was transporting 40 students from kindergarten to 12th grade. Students were from Franklin County’s West Side School District.

Johnson and one of the students in the bus were transported by ground ambulance to Franklin County Medical Center in Preston. The rest of the students were transferred to another district bus.

Johnson was not wearing a seat belt.

Police are still investigating the crash.
