Babies, 12-year-olds celebrate once-in-a-lifetime birthday

Wednesday’s once-in-a-lifetime date has been the talk of the town.

Twelve is said to be a lucky number, so it’s no surprise many were trying to make Wednesday a memorable day.

Wednesday afternoon at Mountain View Hospital, a baby named Kinzlee was born at 12:12 on the dot, making her birthday one to remember.

“No excuse. We won’t forget this ever,” said mom Kylee Smith.

For first-time parents, Kylee and Dallas Smith, today was unforgettable. Their newborn Kinzlee is the newest member of the 12-12-12 birthday club … and it was all out of luck.

“It just happened. My water broke at 5 this morning and we came over to the hospital,” said Smith. “At 10:30 they checked me and they were like, wow this could be a 12:12 baby and the doctor came in at 11:45 and then we got her out at 12:12.”

And across the street at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, nurses said they saw an increase in the number of births Wednesday.

“We’ve had two moms that have had C-sections and then one just delivered naturally and we’ve got about five more to go,” said nurse Laurie McGimsey.

“She decided to come on her own and it was really exciting because she wanted to be special all on her own,” said mom Melanie Summers.

Then there are those born 12 years ago today, like twins Mac and Zeke Archibald. Tonight they’ll blow out 12 candles on this 12th day of the 12th month of the 12th year of the century.

“It’s awesome,” said Zeke.

Plenty of parents wanted their babies to have this memorable birthday. There were reports of C-sections scheduled specifically for Wednesday.

It’ll be another 88 years and 19 days until the digitals all line up again: Jan. 1, 2101.
