Celebrate Idaho State event in Pocatello

It’s Idaho State University Week, and there’s no better way to celebrate than with a community-wide party.

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter and Chubbuck and Pocatello mayors proclaimed this Idaho State University week.

“Go Bengals” was heard a lot when it kicked off Tuesday.

“We really do encourage all of southeastern Idaho to recognize that this is the state university that represents our area,” Chubbuck Mayor Steven England said.

Communiversity, now in its third year, is a combined effort between the university and the surrounding community.

The goal is to show pride and cooperation between both.

“It creates a process of socialization,” said ISU President Arthur Vailas. “I think it’s very important that the university engages in an opportunity to socialize with its neighbors.”

Almost every club on campus packed the ballroom to attract future and current students to their programs.

Music department groups played live music as numerous university workers served free food and welcomed the public.

“We’re getting out into the community,” said Student Body President Matthew Bloxham. “Our students, rather than staying on campus, especially the ones who live on, are really going out into the community and branching out.”

“It inspires people about the value of knowledge. No matter how old you are, and no matter what level of education you’ve had, the university brings a value of knowledge that’s important to you.”

It’s been a big week for ISU Mascot Benny the Bengal, too. He attended the 2013U.S. College Championship Mascot Division in Anaheim, Calif. After a two-day competition, he was named the national champion.
