Man accused of attacking officers arrested

lIdaho Falls police arrested a man they said attacked two officers last week.

Police said Ronald Mencer attacked two police officers with a screwdriver April 7.

Officers had been in the 400 block of G Street investigating a reported disturbance. While police spoke with a resident, Ronald R. Mencer Jr., 44, approached the officers.

Mencer allegedly attempted to hit the officers with the screwdriver.

One officer pushed Mencer away. Mencer came back at police and began fighting with officers as he kicked and tried to bite them, officers said.

Police Tased Mencer multiple times, but it was ineffective. Additional officers were called in, and police eventually got him in handcuffs. He lost consciousness shortly thereafter.

Mencer was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in a comatose state, but he regained consciousness there.

He was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on Tuesday on charges of battery on an officer and obstructing and resisting arrest.
