Guard to build readiness center in Afton

The Wyoming Army National Guard will build a new $13.6 million readiness center near Star Valley High School in Afton.

The center, including a 12,000 square foot storage building, will replace a 1950s-era armory and provide Lincoln County with key structures in case of a disaster.

“The town of Afton, Lincoln County, and the Wyoming Military Department have worked in close order to find a suitable site for the project; one that supports the Guard’s mission, and the community’s needs in the event the facility would be required to support an emergency in the area” said Lt. Col. Guy Beaudoin, construction and facilities management officer for the Wyoming Army National Guard.

The contract award is scheduled after September 2013 and take about 18 months of construction. Beaudoin said he hoped the building would be occupied by January 2015.

The federal government will pay $10.2 million towards the project and the state will pay $3.4 million.
