Pocatello Kennel Club hosts annual canine competition

Hundreds of paws pranced to Alameda Park for the annual Pocatello Kennel Club today.

People from all over southeast Idaho came out to show-off their four-pawed furry friends who have been competing in various events to practice as they gear-up for the upcoming, four-day competition in Blackfoot this summer.

Event organizers say many of the proceeds from today’s event go toward the local organization, Heart to Heart, which provides therapy dogs to those in need.

“The kids read and the dogs sit there (and listen), and the dogs also go to nursing homes,” Pocatello Kennel Club member and event organizer, Teri Steed said.

Competitors and even some of the judges traveled-in from other states.

Ellen McKee left her home in Jackson, WY at seven o’clock this morning in order to make the show in time. As a dog trainer, herself, McKee said she travels around the nation to compete with her dog, Lollipop.

Steed said even some members of the American Kennel Club came from Utah as volunteer judges.

She also said more than 60 dogs came out to compete in today’s show.
