Power poles go down in Idaho Falls

A dump truck caused two power poles to come down in an Idaho Falls neighborhood Wednesday.

An Idaho Falls Power spokesperson said the contractor truck working at Edgemont Elementary School didn’t have its bed down all the way. It clipped the cable and phone lines at 1240 E. 21st Street, which dragged down the power lines and pulled down the poles.

Crews were working to repair the damage. The utility said it would complete the repairs around 7 p.m. Wednesday. Also needing fixed were other power lines in the area, which were sagging.

Idaho Falls Power said 48 customers were without power. In addition, a transformer came down and was leaking oil into someone’s backyard, which would require special cleanup procedures.

“Not a good day for this neighborhood,” said neighbor Jared Duncan.
