Man Tased, arrested on drug charges

A man was Tased and arrested when he struggled with officers, police said.

Officers responded to the 900 block of Ada around 2:30 a.m. Saturday in reference to two men under the influence of drugs trying to get into an apartment.

When police arrived, Dustin Ross, 20, refused to comply with their commands to stop as he tried to run into an apartment. As officers grabbed Ross, they placed him under arrest when he tried to pull himself away from police.

Officers struggled with Ross and and used the Taser in drive stun mode. In drive stunning, the cartridge that extends the probes is taken out, and the device is used like a stun gun. Because drive stunning was ineffective, an officer deployed the probes.

Officers were then able to gain control and handcuff Ross, who was arrested on charges of simple assault, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and frequenting a place where drugs are used.

Marcus Anderson and Zack Newton were also arrested in connection to the incident. Anderson was arrested on a charge of frequenting a place where drugs are used. Newton was arrested on charges of public intoxication and disturbing the peace when he was found at the intersection of Ada and Elva acting erratically, police said.

All three men, under the influence of drugs, were taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for a medical clearance before being booked into the Bonneville County Jail, police said. They announced the arrest Tuesday.
