Girl jumps out of cop car on interstate

A handcuffed girl jumped out of a sheriff’s car on the interstate on Thursday.

Around 11 a.m., a Bingham County Sheriff’s Deputy was transporting a minor from the Bingham County Jail in Blackfoot to the 3B Detention facility in Idaho Falls.

She was restrained by both a belly-chain with handcuffs and hobbles on her feet. She was also wearing a seat belt in the backseat of the transport vehicle.

Around milepost 99 on Interstate 15 in Bingham County, she took off her seat belt and opened the rear passenger-side window of the car. The deputy was able to see her trying to escape, and significantly reduced the vehicle speed before she maneuvered herself out of the open window, and fell to the pavement, the Idaho State Police said Thursday afternoon.

The deputy stopped the car, helped the minor, and requested medical assistance. She was transported to the Bingham County Memorial Hospital by ground ambulance.

The investigation is on-going.
