American Legion donates to Camp Magical Moments

Idaho’s American Legion took the final step of a year-long journey.

For the past year, the legion has been raising funds for Camp Magical Moments.

The camp helps the families of kids battling cancer.

On Monday, that money was handed off to the founder and director of Camp Magical Moments, Ann Walsh.

Each of the American Legion’s nine districts in Idaho contributed.

They held raffles at every district meeting to raise the money.

“And the winners, about half of the time, would donate the winnings back into the program because it is such a great program to sponsor our kids,” said Idaho Department Commander Art Gimpel. “And at the end of the year our Children and Youth chairman said, ‘Whatever you need to make a even number, I will donate.’ So he added another $249.50 to make an even $10,500.”

That money will help children who have or have had cancer attend Camp Magical Moments.

The camp is in its 10th year.

It has no paid salaries, so the donated funds will go toward operational costs.
