Great Neighbors: War Bonnet Roundup

Idaho’s oldest rodeo, the War Bonnet Roundup, draws more than 12,000 spectators and hundreds of cowboys and cowgirls every year.

Veteran Bob Skinner began volunteering 30 years ago. He used to work in the concession stand, but now he’s the head organizer of the event.

“I’m the guy that does the nuts and bolts of the rodeo,” said Skinner.

Gene Summers volunteers at the rodeo with the American Legion. He said Skinner’s time and effort doesn’t go unnoticed.

“If he ever got sick, we’d be hard pressed to replace him. It would take four-five people to do what he does for us,” said Summers.

Skinner finds solutions to any problems at the rodeo, but he also finds time to take it all in. He spends his time helping with the rodeo’s events when he’s not busy fielding questions from other volunteers.

“I’ll probably keep going till I flop over,” said Skinner.
