Name of woman who died in boat crash released

The sheriff’s office has released the name of the Rigby woman who died in a boating accident on Saturday along the South Fork of the Snake River.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said Cara Tomita, 33, died at the scene of the accident.

The crash happened about 6:50 p.m. when the driver of the boat lost control and struck the edge of the river channel, deputies said.The boat landed on dry ground.

The driver, Christopher Fife of Idaho Falls, and Richard Olaveson were taken to the hospital.

The sheriff’s office said alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash and is continuing its investigation.
