Local hospital highly ranked by Consumer Reports

If you pick up the September issue of Consumer Reports on stands now, you will see a special surgery issue. Inside you’ll find the rankings of hospitals across the state, three of them in eastern Idaho.

Consumer Reports lists Portneuf Medical Center in the top three in the state for surgery outcomes. That means surgeries at PMC are among the most successful

“We’re thrilled that this is such a legitimate publication that’s saying, ‘Yep, you’re the top,'” said Brenda Stanley, public relations director.

PMC has been advancing medical care with things such as their transcatheter aortic valve replacement surgery, hyperbaric chamber treatments and launching new programs like the lung cancer detection program.

“We know we’ve got great quality, that our surgeons and our surgery staff and our facility is fabulous,” Stanley said, “but to have an organization like that confirm that is just such an honor.”

Stanley said the best part about this recognition is that they didn’t ask for it. They’re simply doing what they do best, and she says that’s providing the most advanced medical solutions possible.

“We didn’t go out and campaign for this,” said Stanley. “This is something that was done objectively. We didn’t even know about it, and then when it came out and showed we were on the top, that just is so amazing.”

And while some folks may have a negative opinion of PMC, Stanley said you simply need to look at the report – Consumer Reports, that is.

Stanley said PMC is excited about the recognition and will continue to help folks ‘Be Well,’ the hospital’s slogan. This report just makes their smiles shine a little brighter.

At this time in 2011, PMC got results back from a customer satisfaction survey. It showed patient satisfaction was up since they built the new hospital. All other hospitals in eastern Idaho were ranked at average level by consumer reports.

The other two ranked with Portneuf Medical Center were Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene and St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Boise.
