Man leads deputies in high-speed chase through IF

An early morning car chase tore through Idaho Falls on Thursday night.

Just before midnight, Bonneville County sheriff’s deputies were checking on a stolen vehicle near First and Ammon. That’s where they noticed a man they’ve been looking for nearby on outstanding warrants.

The man, Christopher Pena, 29, jumped into another vehicle, a red Charger, and took off.

Deputies followed. Pena tried hitting one of the sheriff’s cars during the chase, they said.

Pena was stopped at the corner of Yellowstone and 25th East near Dad’s Travel Stop.

He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and eluding police. Pena was wanted on several previous charges as well, including misdemeanor police harassment.
