Teachers gear up for school, share advice for parents
Teachers were busy getting their classrooms ready Wednesday afternoon, but they had time to share some advice for parents to help set their children up for success come Sept. 3rd.
Wednesday was the last day of registration for District 91. A.H. Bush Elementary Principal Sarah Sanders had her hands full with parents and students. She reminded parents not only to have immunization shots taken care of, but have childrens’ eyes and ears checked too.
“So they can have those glasses and hearing aids ready for that first day,” said Sanders.
One of Sanders’ teachers, Debra Beard, was busy getting lesson plans ready and making her classroom look like home.
“It makes them feel comfortable and welcome, and I want an environment that promotes learning,” said Beard.
Beard said it is time for parents to start getting their children excited for school.
“Maybe even the week before, start getting them back into a routine of sleep,” said Beard.
She also says establishing a healthy parent-teacher relationship early in the year is instrumental for student success. Beard likes to meet each parent at the beginning of the year to help set their child up for success. District 91 will hold a back-to-school night at all elementary schools Aug. 29. She said it’s a perfect time for teachers to learn about their students.
“Things like how they learn, if there’s something they want me to learn about their child,” said Beard. “That’s really good for back-to-school night.”
District 93 will also hold back-to-school night Thursday, Aug. 29.
