Jessica Crandall

Jessica joined the Local News 8 team in December 2010. A sixth-generation Texan, Jessica left her home state after high school to attend Brigham Young University on an academic scholarship.

While she was in college, Jessica anchored and reported for the award-winning student newscast BYU Daily News for three semesters. She was able to cover a variety of stories such as LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley’s death, the Utah GOP primaries in which long-term senator Bob Bennett lost to tea partier Mike Lee, and the Warren Jeffs trial.

Jessica trained briefly with Park City Television as a reporter and fill-in weather anchor. She also completed an internship with KSL-TV in Salt Lake City. Jessica counts this as one of her greatest learning opportunities working closely with icons such as Carole Mikita and Bruce Lindsay.

Jessica graduated from BYU in August 2010 with a B.A. in Communications emphasis in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in English. She is an active member of Golden Key International Honor Society as well as the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Before graduation, Jessica took 18 months for missionary service in West Virginia and Virginia. Jessica is the youngest of five children. She has 10.5 nieces and nephews and they all live in North Texas. When she’s not in the newsroom, Jessica enjoys spending time with friends, reading, music, snowboarding, trying to play tennis and anything outdoors.
