United flight diverts to Pocatello after engine failure

A Boeing 737 going from Seattle to Houston made an emergency landing in Pocatello early Tuesday morning.

The flight, which left Seattle at midnight, landed in the Gate City around 3 a.m. after one of the engines failed.

Passengers said they could hear the engine sputtering.

The Boeing 737 was able to safely land with one engine.

The cause of the engine failure is under investigation, said Alan Evans, the operations supervisor at the airport.

Six crew members and 150 passengers waited in Pocatello until a replacement flight, which came from Houston, arrived around 9:45 a.m.

Airport Manager David Allen was unavailable for comment, as he was out of town attending a training on emergency landings.
