Sweet stop for Labor Day weekend

As the Labor Day weekend arrived, many in the Idaho Falls area took advantage of their long weekend. From sticking it out at home to Yellowstone Park, people are all over the place for their three day weekend.

But as many people fill the roads, there is one place that many want to stop to satisfy their sweet tooth.

The Rainey Creel Store near Swan Valley is a high-priority stop on most travelers’ Labor Day route. It’s definitely a must for customer Thayne Smedley and his family as they make their way to West Yellowstone.

“Of course we can’t come through this intersection without getting an ice cream cone,” said Smedley.

Whether your favorite flavor is “rocky road” or “cookies and cream,” store manager Jude Moore says the store is more than just another stop on the side of the road.

“It’s just tradition, everybody stops here while they go up camping. And they know that it’s a record weekend where we count our scoops and everyone wants to be a part of that,” Moore said.

The store hopes to set a new record this year, as people head out for the holiday.
