Group uses state fair for petition

There is a certain excitement that comes with the Eastern Idaho State Fair, but it’s not all fun and games for everyone.

A group called Raise Idaho is using the crowds generated by the fair to push the Idaho State ballot with petition signatures. They are behind an initiative to raise Idaho’s minimum wages to $8.10 by 2015 then gradually increasing every year.

City carrier Keith Arving says it may not seem like a lot, but the group said every little bit counts.

“This is a pressing issue because the price of fuel, price to buy groceries. And it’s hard for people to make a living on minimum wage now,” said Arving.

The group will be at the fair until it closes Saturday.
