Idaho Falls man goes to prison for distributing meth
An Idaho Falls man has gotten prison time for distributing meth.
John Robert Anderson, 34, got two years behind bars followed by four years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute in excess of 5 grams of actual methamphetamine. He was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge Terry J. Hatter Jr. at the federal courthouse in Pocatello, said U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson in a news release.
He pleaded guilty to the charge Feb. 7.
According to police reports and the plea agreement, Anderson was arrested on several outstanding warrants in August of last year, including failure to appear out from Bingham County; probation violation and failure to appear out from Bonneville County; and two failure to appear warrants from the city of Idaho Falls.
Idaho Falls police found him when he was in a parked car.
A subsequent search revealed Anderson had 19 grams of a substance containing 17.36 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale disguised as a cell phone, and baggies. Anderson admitted he possessed the methamphetamine with the intention of distributing it to another person, Olson said.
The case was investigated by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, which includes law enforcement agencies throughout eastern Idaho, as well as various federal agencies.
The task force supplies supplemental federal funding to federal and state agencies to investigate drug trafficking organizations. However, the U.S. Attorney’s Office would not say whether Anderson was involved in such an organization.
