Fort Hall woman becomes Miss Indian Nations

The Miss Shoshone-Bannock Queen is also the new Miss Indian Nations.

The Shoshone-Bannock tribes announced Alexandria Alvarez, the daughter of Vernon Alvarez and Shirley Houtz-Alvarez of Fort Hall, became the 21st Miss Indian Nations on Saturday.

The Miss Indian Nations is a national pageant hosted by the United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck, N.D., and is an ambassador for a leadership program created to promote goodwill and representation of all native tribes and nations throughout the Unites States and Canada.

“I am h umbled and I hope to represent Miss Indian Nations with honor, prayer, and purpose. Thank you to all my family, friends, and supporters! ” Alvarez said in a news release.

Alvarez, an Idaho State University student, is a journalist with the Sho-Ban News. She holds bachelor’s degrees in liberal arts and American Indian studies from Haskell Indian Nations University in Kansas and hopes to eventually attend law school.
