Search and rescue teams to remove artwork

Search and rescue teams from two Idaho counties will remove a new sculpture above Pillar Falls.

On Sunday, Shoshone Falls visitors told a park worker someone had built a rock formation on a sandbar below the observation deck in the shape of a penis. The 20-foot formation is visible to spectators, according to a news release from the Twin County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said members of the Twin Falls County and Jerome County search and rescue teams will conduct an impromptu joint training this weekend to remove the “unfortunate display.”

Sheriff Tom Carter said the search and rescue teams consist of volunteers who have full-time jobs and only leave them for emergencies.

“Although the rock formation is unsightly and in very poor taste, it is not reasonable to stress our resources to undergo this task in an urgent manner,” said Carter.

The formation should be gone by Saturday afternoon.
