Public meeting for Ross Park renovation set
Pocatello Parks and Recreation director Jerry Sepich says plans for major changes at Ross Park have been in the works for about two years.
“We’re finally at a point now where we can unveil the conception behind the park and find out from the citizens what they think of the plan,” said Sepich.
The plan includes relocating an entire portion of 2nd Avenue, making the road go around the park rather than through it. The goal behind this is to ensure there is no potential for accidents between cars and pedestrians.
“One of the big issues was the possibility of moving 2nd Avenue,” said Sepich. “Right now it bisects the park, so one of the things we’re proposing is to move it along the railroad tracks. We’ve always been concerned about the safety issues with the roadway running through the park.”
However, that’s not the only relocation planned. The current bandshell will go where the skate park is. And the skate park will go near the end of the park, toward the Intermountain Self Storage.
There are a large number of details in the works, and that’s why they are holding a public meeting Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
