Council names new Teton County Magistrate

A Camas County jurist has been named magistrate judge for Teton County.

The 7th Judicial Magistrates Commission selected Jason David Walker for the post. He will succeed retired Judge Colin Luke in Driggs. The appointment is effective Jan. 2, 2014.

Walker has served as magistrate judge in Idaho’s 5th Judicial District since June 2007. Before that, Walker served as Minidoka County Prosecutor from November 2003 to June 2007.

Walker is a graduate of Brigham Young University and completed his law degree at the University of Idaho College of Law in Moscow, Idaho in 1998.

The 7th District Magistrates Commission chair, Administrative District Judge Jon J. Shindurling, said Walker was selected from a field of four candidates for the position. The candidates were interviewed by the commission in Driggs on Friday morning.

Shindurling said he and the commission were confident the people of Teton County would be well-served by the appointment.
